September 11 is a day where we must put aside our stupid and petty differences to appreciate the greatness that is the United States of America.
The fact that thousands of innocent people lost their lives on that faithful day 21 years ago merely because of the fact that they were Americans, demonstrates that freedom isn't free and should never be taken for granted.
As someone who lost members of my family in the Holocaust merely because of their religious status, I cannot begin to describe to you what it means to live and walk the streets in a country that not only enables diversity and religious freedom but openly supports and encourages it.
Terrorists who cowardly crash airplanes into building will never hamper the American dream of "Life Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness".
Please allow me explain to you why…
Any coward can blow something up and any fool can destroy, one can see such destruction and use that as the springboard to rise up even taller and stronger than before.
From the blood bank donation centers sprung up around my old neighborhood in the days following 9/11, to friends of mine sitting in makeshift booths on the Brooklyn Bridge handing out free water to those parched souls who amid the rubble and stench of death had to walk home following the attack.
Or to our local community coming together to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the local EMS who lost so much on that terrible day, as well as hundreds of other examples of selflessness and self-sacrifice from "regular" people like you and me.
From the vantage point of my old home in Brooklyn, and built literally on the grounds of the World Trade Center, I can very proudly see the Freedom Tower shining gloriously tall and "freedom-like”.
And this is why we have already won and why terrorism will always lose. Because no matter what they attempt to do to us, we will always rebuild, and when we do, we rebuild taller and more steadfast than ever before.
May G-D continue to shower America with blessings, and may those who lost loved ones on September 11th find solace in the fact that we are always here for you.
9/11/01
"I will Never Forget".
